HOPE is the thing with feathers That perches in the soul,

Emily Dickinson

OK, I get it. I have received enough feedback from readers that the 'Fish' is becoming dreery. (Fish is from Steve). I guess I'm just caught up watching the debacle from the sidelines. The Obama supporters are not likely to change there opinion even in the face of eveidence. The moderates that wanted change have learned that we should all be careful of what we wish for. The NYSE has changed. That's the kind of change that scares me. I retreating from change to hope.

So...in light of the whirlwinds around us:

From US News & World Report is an article on being happy in times of recession:

Amid the torrent of academic studies coming out on the subject of happiness, one finding remains consistent and, well, unsurprising: We are happier in flush times than in down periods. And as a result of experiencing the deepest recession in decades, we are now a bunch of really unhappy campers.

And for the Dr. Evil's in the community, the henchmens helper. It allows monitoring the world before the One Meeeliun dollar demand not to destry the world. Check out the evilmeter (metric). Looks pretty grim.

Enjoy the day. Don't watch the Dow.

Life

HOPE is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,

And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.

I ’ve heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

  1. "7 blandiloquent - Beautiful and flattering"

    How can something that starts with "bland" be one of the most beautiful words in the world??
    There are some pretty harsh sounding words on that list, even if they do refer to something pleasant.

    "106 tintinnabulation - Ringing"
    Say that 10 times fast...

  2. On watching the DOW...

    WHY would you do that to yourself?

    The DOW has meant absolutely nothing about the real value of companies since day-trading became profitable in the 70's.

    The DOW is now just an emotional mirror. Quit looking at that "magic" mirror on the wall, and you may find that things are so bad at all.

    I'd be curious as to how many of the readers here have had a family member lose their job, taken a pay cut or filed for un-employment?

    I would love to see real companies start to dis-connect C-level pay (CEO, CFO, CIO, Etc.) from stock prices and tie it to ACTUAL profits and losses... then, maybe, companies will get back to real business again.

  3. I agree w/Tina. I think all C-levels/officers should get paid minimum wage, with a bonus plan based on profitability + other factors that tie to solid business performance; not quarter-to-quarter flashes.
