English is a funny language; that explains why we park our car on the driveway and drive our car on the parkway

People use the word ‘factoid’ interchangeably with ‘fact. Most people think factoid means a small or insignificant fact. But do you know what factoid actually means? An asteroid is something that looks like a star, but isn’t. An android is something that looks like a person, but isn’t. A factoid is something that looks like a fact, but isn’t. It’s a phony, made-up fact. That’s what the suffix ‘-oid’ means.
