Born again jobs

True individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence. People who are hungry and out of a job are the stuff of which dictatorships are made.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

Over the course of 170 [MSNBC] “jobs Fridays” since mid-2000, the latter have apparently never noticed the single most stunning fact embedded in the monthly BLS report. Namely, that outside of health and education there has not been one net new job created in the American economy since July 2000! Yes, not a single new job—as in none, nein, nichts, nada, zip!

By contrast, breadwinner jobs in manufacturing, mining, construction, FIRE, transportation and distribution, information technology, the white collar professions and business management do generate the means for at least a minimum standard of living. Unfortunately, the graph below shows an awful truth that Steve Leisman and Mark Zandi, the Keynesian statist from Moody’s Economics, have never noticed. Namely, that the US economy has been losing breadwinner jobs at a rate of 18,000 per month for 14 years running.

David Stockman

If the people cannot trust their government to do the job for which it exists - to protect them and to promote their common welfare - all else is lost.

Barack Obama

  1. If we're losing 18k jobs per month right NOW... why does the trend show an up slope??
Looks like we've been putting jobs back on the "breadwinner economy" graph slowly and surely since about Feb 2010 from the graph... or am I missing something??
