Pre-Diabetes

After 40 life changes.  Does it ever.  All of a sudden terms like metabolic syndrome, cholesterol, blood pressure, creep into conversations.  You can take it seriously, or not.

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions — increased blood pressure, elevated insulin levels, excess body fat around the waist or abnormal cholesterol levels — that occur together, increasing your risk of heart disease, stroke and diabetes.

Prediabetes means that your blood sugar level is higher than normal, but it's not yet increased enough to be classified as type 2 diabetes. Still, without intervention, prediabetes is likely to become type 2 diabetes in 10 years or less. And, if you have prediabetes, the long-term damage of diabetes — especially to your heart and circulatory system — may already be starting. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/prediabetes/ds00624

If you, or someone you know have symptoms of metabolic syndrome or pre-diabetes…I recommend that you check out information from a reputable web site.  I like the Mayo Clinic but also look at Health Central.  I have followed David Mendosa for a number of years and have read Gretchen Becker.

They will be hosting a one hour teleconference on Pre-diabetes.  Gretchen and David write about diabetes at HealthCentral. They started working together about 15 years ago, soon after they learned that they had type 2 diabetes.

Wednesday, May 12 will be the focus of a HealthCentral's teleconference.  The call is at 8 p.m. Eastern, 7 p.m. Central, 6 p.m. Mountain, and 5 p.m. Pacific.  The call-in number is 1 (800) 977-8002. The access code is 82611869#.  For more information see: http://www.healthcentral.com/diabetes/c/17/111302/talk-prediabetes
