I don't know who this bailout is helping.

The Obama administration is warning lawmakers that the trust fund that pays for highway construction will go broke in August unless Congress approves an infusion of as much as $7 billion.

I can’t believe that the $819 billion stimulus bill, and this year’s $410 billion Omnibus bill can’t cover American highways.  We need to spend more money.  Thank God my kids are paying for this.  I certainly can’t.  What am I missing?

In today’s NYT, and interesting article on homeowner relief.  “These are the same people you couldn’t trust before.”, Eileen is starting to get it…

I don't know who this bailout is helping. We've given these banks all this money and they're not doing what they say they're doing. Something's not working right.

To which she poses her own question: What sort of deal is it for the American taxpayer? As she sees it, the same banks that generated the mortgage crisis are now getting public money to fix it, while doing little more than seeking new fees.

“I don’t think the government gets it,” she said. “These are the same people you couldn’t trust before.”

The Omnibus bill is Here

Did you read the bills?  If so, you did better than your elected representative!  There is no way that anyone can read these in less than 24 hours.

It’s pretty mind numbing.  That way rubes like us can never figure out what’s really going on.  Maybe we need a “plain text’ resolution.  No bill can be passed by any US Government unless it can be understood by a sixth grader.  And no bill can exceed 25 pages, double spaced.  That way with a five day ‘cooling off’ period, we can all read them and know what our senators and congress-people, are up to.
